The schematic diagram below shows the RAM slots on the HP Z4 G4 motherboard. 32GB DDR4-2666 RAM is recommended for Reality Engine. RAM should be installed in the slot order mentioned below:

16GB + 16GB

It is advised not to install 1x 32 GB RAM.
